Built with Unreal Engine 5, Splitgate 2 will remain free-to-play, but promises a significantly enhanced experience. While retaining core elements, the developers aim for a completely fresh feel. CEO Ian Proulx emphasizes a design focused on long-term playability, stating a goal of a "decade or more" lifespan. This involved creating tools for a more satisfying and engaging gameplay loop, with a redesigned portal system that caters to both casual and expert players.
The game will be available on PC, PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, and Xbox One. A key addition is a faction system, adding strategic depth without transforming it into a hero shooter.
New Factions, Maps, and More
The Sol Splitgate League takes center stage, introducing three distinct factions: Aeros (dashing mobility), Meridian (tactical time manipulation), and Sabrask (brute force). Each faction offers a unique playstyle.
While specific gameplay details are still under wraps (with a Gamescom 2024 reveal promised), the trailer showcases new maps, weapons, and the return of dual-wielding.
No Single-Player, But Rich Lore
Splitgate 2 will not include a single-player campaign. However, a companion mobile app will allow players to delve into the lore through comics, earn character cards, and even take a quiz to determine their best-suited faction.
