Sony Pictures and PlayStation Productions are teaming up for a big-screen adaptation of the hit game, Helldivers 2. The exciting announcement was made at CES 2025 by PlayStation Productions head, Asad Qizilbash: "We're thrilled to announce we've started development on a film based on the incredibly popular Helldivers 2." While specifics remain under wraps, fans can anticipate spectacular space battles brought to life on the silver screen.
Helldivers 2, developed by Arrowhead Studios, is a critically acclaimed shooter drawing inspiration from the classic Starship Troopers. The game achieved phenomenal success, becoming PlayStation Studios' fastest-selling title, moving 12 million copies in its first 12 weeks. Its popularity surged further with the Illuminate update, reintroducing a beloved enemy faction from the original Helldivers.
Adding to the excitement, a film adaptation of Horizon Zero Dawn is also in the works, a joint venture between PlayStation Studios and Columbia Pictures – the studio behind the successful 2022 Uncharted movie.
Qizilbash offered a first glimpse into the Horizon Zero Dawn project: "We're in the early stages of the Horizon Zero Dawn movie, but we can assure audiences: this world and its characters will receive a truly cinematic debut."
