According to a recent Bloomberg report, Warner Bros. has canceled an unannounced paid DLC for its popular game, Hogwarts Legacy. The planned story expansion was set to launch this year alongside a "Definitive Edition" of the game. However, the decision to cancel came this week due to concerns that the content volume did not justify the proposed price, as per Bloomberg's sources. Warner Bros. did not provide a comment on this matter when approached by Bloomberg.
This cancellation comes amidst a broader restructuring of Warner Bros.' gaming division, prompted by ongoing financial challenges. Earlier in the year, the company also canceled its anticipated Wonder Woman game and shut down the studio responsible for it, Monolith Productions, along with WB San Diego and the MultiVersus developer, Player First Games. Additionally, last September, Warner Bros. announced layoffs at Rocksteady Studios.
Despite these setbacks, Warner Bros. continues to view Hogwarts Legacy and the Harry Potter franchise as key assets. The company has emphasized that a sequel to Hogwarts Legacy is "one of the biggest priorities," reflecting its strategy to focus on fewer but larger franchises. This commitment is underscored by the success of the initial release, which has sold over 30 million copies.
