Lollipop Chainsaw RePOP Hits Major Sales Milestone

Since its launch late last year, Lollipop Chainsaw RePOP has been making waves in the gaming community, recently surpassing a significant sales milestone of over 200,000 units sold. This remaster of the classic action game has drawn fans eager to dive back into its unique world, despite some initial technical hiccups and claims of censorship.

Originally developed by Grasshopper Manufacture, the creators behind the renowned No More Heroes series, Lollipop Chainsaw is a hack-and-slash game that casts players as a cheerleader named Juliet Starling, who wields a chainsaw to battle zombies. The remaster, however, was undertaken by Dragami Games, who enhanced the game with quality-of-life improvements and a stunning visual upgrade.

Several months post-launch in September 2024, Lollipop Chainsaw RePOP has achieved impressive sales across all platforms, including current and last-gen consoles as well as PC. Dragami Games proudly announced this achievement via a tweet, celebrating the game's success in reaching over 200,000 sales.

Lollipop Chainsaw RePOP Developers Celebrate The Game's Sales Success

The narrative of Lollipop Chainsaw follows Juliet Starling, a cheerleader at San Romero High School, who discovers her family's legacy as zombie hunters when her school is besieged by the undead. Players engage in intense hack-and-slash combat, using Juliet's chainsaw to battle hordes of zombies and formidable bosses, reminiscent of titles like Bayonetta.

The original Lollipop Chainsaw, released in 2012 for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, achieved even greater success, selling over a million copies. The game's appeal was significantly boosted by the collaboration between game designer Goichi Suda and filmmaker James Gunn, who contributed to the game's story and script.

Currently, there is no confirmation on whether the success of Lollipop Chainsaw RePOP will lead to additional content or a sequel. However, this milestone bodes well for the remastering of niche games. Another title from Grasshopper Manufacture, Shadows of the Damned: Hella Remastered, has also been updated for modern platforms, suggesting a growing interest in revisiting and refreshing classic games for new audiences.
