Marvel Filming at Windsor, Charles Paid Millions

Marvel is allegedly paying King Charles "millions" in order to film Avengers: Doomsday on the grounds of the UK royal residence, Windsor Castle. Recent set photographs also hint at the comeback of another unexpected Marvel character.

Construction has commenced within Windsor's parkland for several Avengers: Doomsday sets, including one referred to as "Annie Reynolds' House" in planning documents submitted to local authorities. Annie is the mother of Bob Reynolds from Thunderbolts*/New Avengers, implying further childhood flashbacks at this location that will reveal more about Sentry/The Void's early years.

Now, a report from The Irish Sun indicates a second set is named "Luke Cage's House" — a name that hasn't been heard in the Marvel fandom for some time. The bulletproof Harlem hero was last seen in 2018, during the second and final season of his Netflix series, which shared a universe with Daredevil, Jessica Jones, and Iron Fist. Cage joined these other heroes in the team-up series The Defenders, a small-screen equivalent of The Avengers, before Netflix canceled its entire Marvel lineup upon the announcement of the rival streaming platform Disney+.

Marvel is well known for its secrecy, often listing productions under code names and filming crucial scenes—such as the funeral in Avengers: Endgame—with even the participating actors sometimes unaware of the context. Although this could still be an elaborate decoy, fans are speculating about the storyline and the possible reasons behind Luke Cage's return.

Pictures of the "Luke Cage's House" set depict a classic rural American home painted mustard yellow. While the setting does not appear to be located in Harlem, fans have noted that the color matches the shade connected to the character throughout his Netflix series.

In recent years, Marvel has gradually reintegrated The Defenders into the MCU, with guest appearances by Charlie Cox as Daredevil in various projects leading up to the Disney+ reboot Daredevil: Born Again, as well as the return of Jessica Jones (Krysten Ritter) in the upcoming season. The Punisher, a character spun off from Daredevil, is also scheduled for a TV special, after which he is rumored to appear alongside Tom Holland in Spider-Man: Brand New Day.

The precise sum paid to King Charles for the use of Windsor's grounds remains undisclosed, though estimates place it in the millions. The official landowner, Crown Estates, often uses revenue from film productions to assist with the upkeep of its properties, and also allocates a quarter of its annual profits to the King.

Could King Charles make a cameo appearance? Unfortunately, it appears improbable. Reports indicate the King will be on holiday in Scotland at Balmoral in early August, when the sets are expected to be in use.
