Avowed's Character Creation: A Deep Dive into Backgrounds

Avowed boasts a rich character creator, allowing players to shape their character's physical appearance and choose a Background, influencing their backstory and narrative arc. This guide details each Background and its impact on gameplay.

Avowed offers five distinct Backgrounds, each providing unique dialogue options and a starting weapon. However, all equipment and abilities remain accessible regardless of chosen Background.

The Five Backgrounds:

• Arcane Scholar: This scholarly character hails from Bragganhyl Academy, their treatise on soul lineages causing conflict with a local lord. Imprisoned, they were recruited by the emperor for the imperial archives. They possess knowledge of the occult, law, history, and poetry.

• Court Augur: A tragic past and mystical abilities mark this Background. Their visions and insights, following a village crop failure, led to suspicion and exile. The emperor, however, recognized their potential and made them a personal mystic. Court Augurs possess spiritual awareness and unique dialogue options related to magic and the Gods.

• Noble Scion: A product of noble birth, wealth, and questionable morals, this character's family fell apart due to scandal. Seeking the emperor's favor, they became a valuable ally. Ideal for players wishing to remain loyal to the empire.

• Vanguard Scout: Spared from execution, this character prefers the wilderness to courtly life. Their tracking and espionage skills make them a valuable asset to the empire. Suits players who enjoy a hunter-style play.

• War Hero: Their bravery in quelling a Skaenite uprising earned them a place among elite warriors. Loyalty and grit define this character, perfect for players who prefer a warrior roleplay style.

Starting Weapons:

Each Background provides a Common-quality, one-handed melee weapon:

• Arcane Scholar – Common Dagger
• Court Augur – Common Mace
• Noble Scion – Common Sword
• Vanguard Scout – Common Axe
• War Hero – Common Spear

These starting weapons, found near a shipwreck during the On Strange Shores quest, are easily replaceable as the game progresses. Prioritize choosing the Background that best suits your desired roleplay experience.
