Apr 27,2025 Author: George

In *Monster Hunter Wilds*, the beasts you encounter are not only ferocious but also memorable, with Rompopolo standing out as one of the most unique Brute Wyvern-type monsters in the game. If you're looking to conquer this beast, here's a comprehensive guide on how to unlock, defeat, and capture Rompopolo.

How to Unlock Rompopolo in Monster Hunter Wilds

Your first encounter with Rompopolo occurs in Chapter 2 during Mission 2-1: Toward Fervent Fields. As you journey through the Oilwell Basin region on your way to Azuz City, Rompopolo will make its appearance. Defeating it is crucial to progress in the mission.

Once you've triumphed over Rompopolo at least once, its entry will be added to your Large Monster Field Guide. You can then engage with it repeatedly by exploring the Oilwell Basin or by initiating the "Oilwell Basin Blast" Optional Quest from your Tent.

To prepare effectively for this battle, arm yourself with water-element weapons, which can be obtained from Uth Duna in the Scarlet Forest. Additionally, equip gear with fire resistance, which can also be farmed from Uth Duna or Ajarakan later in the chapter. Consider crafting a fire-resistance Talisman like the Fire Charm I or a general Defense Charm I for added protection. Don't forget to boost your health and stamina by grilling a meal before the fight.

Rompopolo Attacks and Weaknesses

Rompopolo is distinguished by its unique attacks derived from its gas-filled, saggy skin. Be prepared for gas-related attacks that can cause explosions and inflict poison status ailments. Carry Antidotes to counteract the poison, and remember that your Palico can help cleanse most ailments.

Key attacks to be wary of include:

  • Arm Swipe – Rompopolo uses its clawed arms to swipe forward twice. This attack is relatively easy to dodge due to its limited range.
  • Lunge With Arm Swipe – It charges forward while raising both arms to perform an arcing swipe.
  • Tail Swing – Rompopolo swings its tail toward its target.
  • Poison Stream or Swipe – It sprays a stream of poison gas or charges while swinging its head and spraying poison.
  • Oil Explosion – From a distance, Rompopolo injects gas into oil pools to cause explosions beneath you. Dodge swiftly to avoid damage.
  • Charged Oil Explosion – Later in the fight, it curls its tail to pump more gas into the oil, causing a larger explosion. Dodging this is crucial due to its significant damage.

Should You Kill or Capture Rompopolo?

As with previous *Monster Hunter* games, you have the option to either capture or kill Rompopolo at the end of the battle. To capture it, weaken the monster until your Palico notes it looks "tired." Then, use Shock Traps or Pitfall Traps to ensnare it, followed by at least one Tranq Bomb to knock it out, completing the capture.

Both capturing and killing Rompopolo yield viable rewards, though the items obtained can vary. Some items are exclusive to captures, while others are only obtainable through kills. Here are the potential drops from Rompopolo:
