When you're close to one, a painting icon will appear on your compass and map. To capture these, approach stealthily by crouching, and hold L2/LT to complete the painting. However, unlike regular Sumi-E, legendary ones don't show up on the map, making them trickier to find. There are five legendary Sumi-E, each available during specific seasons and times of day.

Legendary Tanuki – Summer, Daytime

To find the Legendary Tanuki, head to the Omi region during the summer, specifically during the day. Navigate to Shimmering Fields, and more precisely, the Shigaraki Hamlet. Once there, you'll be surrounded by Tanuki statues. Follow the path upwards to a clearing where the legendary Tanuki will be active. Approach stealthily and capture the moment with your Sumi-E.

Legendary Grey Heron – Winter, Daytime

The Grey Heron can be found in the Wakasa region, specifically in the Lake Suigetsu area during winter and daytime. Head to the cluster of islands west of Lake Suigetsu. Approach cautiously without rushing in, dismount at a safe distance, and sneak up on the Heron to complete your Sumi-E.

Legendary Macaque – All Seasons, Nighttime

To find the Legendary Macaque, travel to the Yamashiro region and locate the Little Leaf Glade sub-region. Near the Sarumaru Shrine by the mountains, wait for night to fall. Ascend the stairs to the top, where you'll find the three wise monkeys ready for your Sumi-E.

Legendary Silver Fox – Autumn, Nighttime

The Legendary Silver Fox can be found at night during Autumn in the Kii region, specifically at the Nakahechi Route sub-region. Visit the Kamimisu Inari Shrine, which features fox statues. The Silver Fox will be at the cliff's edge, ready for you to capture in your Sumi-E.

Legendary Deer – Spring, Nighttime

Head to the Yamato region and the Yoshino sub-region to find the Legendary Deer during spring at night. Start at the Mountain Blossom Temple to the west and head east along the path to reach Sakura Meadows. Climb the slopes to the clearing at the top, where the Deer will be waiting for your artistic touch.

Keep in mind that even when you're at the right location during the correct time, there's a chance the animals might not spawn. If this happens, try fast-traveling to a nearby location and returning to see if your luck improves, helping you complete your collection.
