Marvel Rivals players are risking account bans by continuing to use mods, even after a Season 1 crackdown. Since the game's successful December launch, players have customized their experience with mods, creating skins like Vegeta-Iron Man and goth Mantis, even transforming Jeff the Land Shark into Pochita.
Last week's Season 1 update, introducing the Fantastic Four, included a new anti-modding measure: asset hash checking. Developer NetEase reiterated its terms of service prohibiting mods, cheats, bots, and unauthorized third-party software, warning players of potential bans. NetEase stated, "It is not recommended to modify any game files, as doing so carries the risk of getting banned."
However, a workaround is circulating online, requiring more steps but still accessible to many PC players. Modder Prafit, who shared a workaround on Nexus Mods, cautioned users: "Use at your own risk," noting the lack of confirmed permanent bans but acknowledging the risk.
New mods, leveraging the Fantastic Four characters, are emerging. Ercuallo's mod, transforming Mister Fantastic into Luffy, has already garnered over 5,000 downloads in two days, according to Nexus Mods.

Whether NetEase will follow through on its ban threats remains to be seen. While no publicly confirmed bans for modding exist yet, the workaround could prompt further action.
NetEase's motivation for banning mods likely stems from potential revenue loss from skin sales, intellectual property concerns, gameplay balance disruption, and potential performance issues. Prafit even noted that their workaround is best suited for high-performance PCs.
