Street Fighter 6 Sales Hit 5M After Switch 2 Launch

Mar 13,2026 Author: Grace

Capcom has announced that Street Fighter 6 has surpassed 5 million copies sold, up from the 4 million reported in September 2024. This latest sales milestone was boosted by the fighting game's launch on the Nintendo Switch 2.

Capcom stated it aimed to "maximize the game's user base" by releasing Street Fighter 6, now two years old, on the Switch 2 at launch. The Switch 2 version includes exclusive modes designed for the console and leverages the gyro functionality of the Joy-Con 2. Notably, the Switch 2 version supports crossplay, significantly expanding the player pool for matchmaking.

"These initiatives have contributed to Street Fighter 6's broad appeal, increased global sales, and helped the title reach the 5 million units sold milestone," Capcom said.

Street Fighter 6 reached 3 million copies sold back in January 2024, seven months after its launch. Capcom noted that Street Fighter 6 is "generally progressing in line with our expectations," but prior to launch, the company revealed it aimed for the sequel to outperform Street Fighter 5, targeting lifetime sales of over 10 million copies.

"While we do not disclose specific budget figures, we aim to exceed the performance of its predecessor, Street Fighter 5, and are targeting more than 10 million units over the game's lifetime," Capcom explained. Street Fighter 6 still has a considerable journey ahead to surpass Street Fighter 5's total sales.

To provide context for Street Fighter 6's sales, the 1993 SNES classic Street Fighter 2 Turbo sold 4.1 million copies, the iconic Street Fighter 2 sold 6.30 million, and Street Fighter 5 reached 7.8 million.

Another interesting comparison is with rival fighting game Mortal Kombat 1, which also sold 5 million copies after its release in September 2023. Mortal Kombat has historically been the top-selling fighting game franchise, significantly outselling series like Street Fighter and Tekken. However, Mortal Kombat 1 is considered a sales disappointment, and developer NetherRealm recently confirmed it has moved on to its next project.

Meanwhile, Capcom continues to support Street Fighter 6 into its third year, recently announcing a lineup of four new DLC characters: Sagat arrives this summer; C. Viper this fall; Alex in early spring 2026; and finally, Ingrid in late spring 2026. The announcement was made in a trailer featuring pro wrestler Kenny Omega, who dressed as each DLC character.

IGN's Street Fighter 6 review awarded it a 9/10. We praised it as: "Street Fighter 6 is the most feature-rich entry in the series at launch, with an excellent roster of 18 characters. Its new mechanics revitalize the one-on-one fighting formula, and it masterfully executes all the essential elements of a stellar fighting game."
