Osmos Returns to Google Play

Jan 17,2025 Author: Stella

Osmos, the acclaimed cell-absorbing puzzle game, is back on Android! Previously removed due to playability issues stemming from outdated porting technology, it's now been resurrected by developer Hemisphere Games with a completely revamped port.

For those unfamiliar, Osmos is a unique, award-winning physics-based puzzle where you absorb smaller organisms while evading larger ones. Its simple yet engaging gameplay made it a hit, but Android users were left in the dark for years after its initial 2010 release.

Now, a brand-new, modern Android port is available on Google Play! Hemisphere Games explains in a blog post that the original Android version, developed with Apportable, became impossible to update after Apportable's closure. The game was subsequently removed due to incompatibility with current (64-bit) Android systems. This new version, however, is a completely rebuilt port, ensuring a smooth and enjoyable experience.

If you need further convincing, watch the gameplay trailer above. Osmos' innovative mechanics have influenced countless subsequent games, and its absence from the early days of social media is a missed opportunity; it would undoubtedly be a TikTok sensation today.

Osmos offers a nostalgic experience, reminiscent of a time when mobile gaming felt limitless. While many excellent mobile puzzle games exist, few match Osmos' captivating aesthetic and gameplay.
