Pocket Dev Gifts Trade Tokens to Pokémon TCG Players

Feb 23,2025 Author: Lillian

Creatures Inc., the developer of Pokémon Trading Card Game Pocket, has issued 1,000 Trade Tokens to players – enough for only two substantial trades – while continuing to address issues with the controversial trading mechanic.

Players logging in today will find the tokens in their Gift menu without explanation. However, Creatures Inc. posted on X/Twitter to acknowledge player feedback and express appreciation for their patience. The developer faced significant criticism last week, with the trading system described as "hilariously toxic," "predatory," and "downright greedy."

The trading feature, introduced alongside existing restrictions on pack openings and Wonder Picking, further limited players with the Trade Token system. Players criticized the high cost of acquiring these tokens, requiring the deletion of five cards to trade one of the same rarity.

Eight days after the release of the trading feature, which was met with considerable backlash, Creatures Inc. had already anticipated negative reactions based on feedback three weeks prior. The developer stated then, "Your concerns are seen... I'd like to invite everyone to try it and provide feedback." This led many to expect improvements, which did not materialize.

Creatures Inc. subsequently acknowledged that "some restrictions... are preventing players from casually enjoying" trading. They promised to address complaints by offering necessary items as rewards in future events, a promise broken by the February 3rd Cresselia ex Drop Event.

Players have expressed concerns that the trading system is designed to increase revenue for Pokémon TCG Pocket, which reportedly generated $200 million in its first month, before trading was even available. This is further suggested by the inability to trade cards of 2-Star rarity or higher, preventing players from easily obtaining missing cards without spending significant sums ($10, $100, or more) on random packs. One player reported spending approximately $1,500 to complete the first set, with the third set arriving just last week.
