According to journalist Jason Schreier, the acclaimed studio Rocksteady is currently developing an exciting new single-player Batman game. While specifics are still under wraps, Schreier has not yet confirmed if this game will serve as a prequel, a direct continuation of the beloved Arkham saga, or perhaps something set within an entirely new universe. However, intriguing rumors suggest that Rocksteady might be crafting a game based on the "Batman Beyond" concept, immersing players in a futuristic Gotham. The vision is grand—a full-blown trilogy is reportedly in the works, with the game slated for release on next-generation consoles.

The Arkham series was celebrated for its stunning visuals, and a futuristic Gotham could be Rocksteady's most ambitious and visually striking project to date. The move towards a "Batman Beyond" setting also addresses a poignant challenge: the iconic voice of Batman. Following the passing of the legendary Kevin Conroy in 2022, the studio might choose to focus on a new Batman such as Terry McGinnis or Damian Wayne, echoing Warner Bros. Montreal's approach in their canceled follow-up to Batman: Arkham Knight.
Rocksteady's most recent endeavor—an online shooter—did not meet player expectations and ultimately flopped. The studio was forced to abandon its post-launch plans within a year, culminating in a hastily produced animation that reversed some of the game's most contentious plot points, revealing that fallen heroes were, in fact, clones.
Now, Rocksteady is returning to its roots with a new solo Batman adventure. Yet, insiders caution that fans will need to remain patient, as the project is still several years away from release.
