Mastering Rune Slayer's Fishing Mechanic: A Comprehensive Guide

If the presence of fishing in Rune Slayer hasn't already tipped you off, let's confirm: it's not your typical MMORPG. But you're here to learn how to fish, and we're here to help. Believe us, we struggled initially, but now we're ready to share our expertise. (And no, it's not as straightforward as in Fisch.)

Before you even think about reeling in a catch, accept the fishing quest from Simon the Fisherman (the white-haired NPC near the Barracuda's swimming area). He'll task you with catching 5 "fish" in exchange for a Tackle Box (the quotation marks will become clear later).

Here's the catch (pun intended): you need a fishing rod and bait. Conveniently, Simon sells both.

Purchase a Wood Fishing Rod and several Worms from Simon. While 5 worms are sufficient, we recommend 10 for extra safety. Crucially, you don't equip the bait. The Worms simply need to be in your inventory; their consumption is automatic upon catching something.

Here's a vital tip: you seemingly need at least 5 bait to catch anything. We initially failed with only one Worm. Having 5 in your inventory is key. Keeping them in your hotbar aids tracking.

First, select your Wood Fishing Rod. Place it in your hotbar (or access it from your inventory). Your character will automatically hold it.

Hold M1 to cast your line into the water. The pier near Simon is ideal.

Watch the bobber. When you see one or two ripples, click M1 again to reel in your catch.

Important Note: This isn't foolproof. You'll often catch nothing, or even junk. However, Simon counts junk as a successful catch (hence the "fish" quotation marks).

Cast, wait for ripples, click M1, and repeat five times to complete the quest. We caught only two actual fish, the rest being Old Cups.

After catching 5 items, return to Simon to finish the quest. He'll reward you with a Tackle Box. Use it to store your remaining worms, freeing up valuable inventory space.

That's it! Happy fishing! For further assistance, consult our Ultimate Beginner's Guide to Rune Slayer.
