How to Become a Shinigami in Hollow Era
At the start of Hollow Era, you begin as a Soul Spirit. To transition into a Shinigami, or Soul Reaper, you must accept the first quest from an NPC named Hurt Shinigami, who is seeking help. Once you commit to this path, you can't switch to a Hollow unless you later become a Visored. If you're interested in the Hollow path, check out our separate guide on Hollow progression.

Choosing to become a Hollow requires breaking your chain, whereas opting for Shinigami means the chain will slowly break on its own every two minutes. If you let the chain break completely, you'll turn into a Hollow. In this scenario, our resurrection moves lists guide will help you with your Hollow endgame.
Hollow Era Shinigami Quests Guide
Your initial quest as a Shinigami is to purify 6 Lost Souls, aligning with the Shinigami's role in maintaining the balance between life and death. After this, you'll receive another quest from an NPC near Hurt Shinigami, requiring you to deliver a letter to a Doctor friend near the hospital.

If your budget allows, utilize the bus stop for $200 as a teleport/fast travel option, given the game's large map. Alternatively, for 149 Robux, you can purchase infinite fast travel from the Robux Shop menu.

To maximize your Shinigami Reiatsu, strategically allocate your skill points. The Reiatsu Skill Tree offers powerful Kido abilities exclusive to Shinigami. Here’s a breakdown:
- Kido Nodes: Increase the damage dealt with Kido skills.
- Reiatsu Nodes: Boost your maximum Reiatsu output.
Key Kido abilities include:
- Caja Negacion: A lightning beam from your finger, which spreads electricity when combined with Electric.
- Shakkaho: A red energy ball that explodes on impact, enhanced with Ragdoll to knock back foes or Fire to ignite them.
- Chain Bind: Summons energy chains to pull enemies towards you.
- Prison of Light: Immobilizes enemies with six light rods, ideal for agile opponents.
- Thunder Sear: A slow-moving lightning ball that damages nearby foes and explodes upon contact, perfect for crowd control.
How to Get Shikai in Hollow Era
To unlock your Shikai in Hollow Era, reach level 15 and visit Urihiro to start the Shikai Training quest. You'll need to defeat Urahara Kisuke for 1,700 exp, which will enable you to use Shikai powers.

Using Shikai
Upon unlocking Shikai, your weapon gains a random mighty ability. If you're unhappy with the new power, you can re-roll it at Urahara Shop for cash. The game features a Rage Bar, which fills when you take or deal damage. When full, press Y (default keybind) to activate Shikai, which ends when you run out of Reiatsu or release the key.
Hollow Era Shikai Mastering
Your Shikai Mastery Level depends on the Mastery Points earned by using Shikai Skills. Higher Mastery Levels reduce the Rage required for Shikai, and each level comes with different aura effects and visual changes.
- Mastery Level 1 (1-149 Points): Transparent Aura
- Mastery Level 2 (150-299 Points): Brighter Aura with Particles
- Mastery Level 3 (300-499 Points): Lightning Boost
- Mastery Level 4 (500+ Points): Zone of Flying Stones
Becoming a Visored in the Hollow Era
Once committed to the Shinigami path, you can't switch to Hollow unless you become a Visored, allowing you to break the barrier between Shinigami and Hollow using a Hollow Mask. To become a Visored, reach level 50 or higher and head to the Vizard’s Warehouse to unlock the Vizard fighting style, which requires defeating the King of Hueco Mundo for a 1% chance to obtain the Hogyoku.
