Silent Hill f: March 2025 Reveal and Announcements

May 13,2025 Author: Claire

Konami's latest Silent Hill Transmission has unveiled exciting new details about Silent Hill f, the eagerly awaited addition to the iconic horror franchise set in 1960s Japan. Initially announced in 2022, Silent Hill f was described as taking place in a "beautiful, therefore terrifying" world and is being penned by Ryukishi07, the renowned Japanese visual novel writer behind the Higurashi and Umineko series.

After almost three years, we now have a wealth of new information about Silent Hill f, which aims to "find the beauty in terror" and present players with a poignant yet terrifying decision set against the backdrop of 1960s Japan. While the specifics of this decision remain under wraps, Konami has shared an intriguing glimpse into the game's narrative.

The story follows Shimizu Hinkao, an ordinary teenager whose life takes a drastic turn when her town is engulfed in fog and undergoes horrifying transformations. As players, you will guide Shimizu through a now unrecognizable town, solving puzzles, battling bizarre enemies, and striving to survive, all culminating in a critical decision that defines the narrative. Silent Hill f offers a fresh story that welcomes newcomers while including Easter eggs for long-time fans of the series. The setting is the fictional town of Ebisugaoka, inspired by Kanayama, Gero, in the Gifu Prefecture.

Creature and character designer Kera expressed his enthusiasm for the project, highlighting the influence of the Silent Hill series, particularly Silent Hill 2, on his work. "In particular, I am constantly remembering Silent Hill 2, and the messages on the walls, the music, and the monster designs," Kera remarked. He emphasized the challenge of crafting unique monster designs that fit the new Japanese setting while staying true to the Silent Hill aesthetic, hoping players will appreciate the distinct yet familiar world they've created.

Music plays a crucial role in Silent Hill f, with the collaboration of long-time Silent Hill composer Akira Yamaoka and Kensuke Inage, known for his work on the Dynasty Warriors series. Inage described his approach to the game's soundtrack: "I have composed music for an unsettling yet beautiful world that uses imagery from shrines, blending ancient Japanese court music with ambient echoes. I wove in various techniques that will connect the player to the protagonist's agony, internal conflict, fear, and other emotions."

Although a release date was not announced, Silent Hill f is confirmed to launch on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC.
