After a successful closed alpha phase, Smite 2's open beta is now accessible for free on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, PC, and Steam Deck. Alongside the launch of the free-to-play open beta, Titan Forge Games has released a new Smite 2 patch that introduces exciting new gods, a beloved game mode, and a wealth of new content.
Smite 2 was unveiled a year ago, promising a sequel to the popular third-person MOBA. Built using Unreal Engine 5, Smite 2 offers a refined experience compared to its predecessor, with enhanced visuals and combat mechanics. The game also features a revamped item shop, allowing players to select items regardless of their chosen god’s classification. As with the original Smite, players assume the roles of gods from various cultures, battling it out on a 5v5 map to siege the enemy team. Now, after the closed alpha phase, Smite 2 is available to everyone.
Starting January 14, Smite 2's open beta became accessible on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, PC (via Epic Games Store and Steam), and Steam Deck, where players can download the game for free. The latest update brings a host of new content, including Aladdin, a god specifically designed for Smite 2. Aladdin can run along walls and even revive after death thanks to his companion's ability, which grants him three wishes. Staying true to his legendary origin, Aladdin’s ultimate allows him to use his lamp to capture enemies and force them into a 1v1 fight.
Smite 2's Free-to-Play Open Beta Introduces New Content
The other gods added to the Smite 2 roster include Geb, the Egyptian God of Earth; Mulan, the Chinese Ascendant Warrior; Agni, from the Hindu Pantheon; and Ullr, from the Norse Pantheon. In addition to new gods, Smite 2 brings back the popular Joust mode from the original Smite, where players compete on a smaller 3v3 map. The open beta also includes the Conquest map and the Assault game mode.
Titan Forge Games’ creative director emphasized that Smite 2 is objectively better than Smite in many ways. The developer expressed gratitude to the player base for their feedback during the closed alpha, which helped enhance Smite 2, and promised "ambitious content" for the game in 2025.
While Smite 2 is available on almost every major platform, Nintendo Switch users won’t be able to play it due to concerns about the console's ability to run the game smoothly. However, Titan Forge Games has indicated an openness to bringing the game to the Switch 2 in the future. Meanwhile, Smite fans can dive into the open beta of this eagerly awaited sequel.
