In the opening chapters of *Avowed*'s main quest, the Envoy faces a tragic assassination. After unraveling the mystery of their own murder, you'll uncover that Ygwulf, a member of the Paradisan Rebels, is the culprit. This faction fiercely opposes Aedyr's influence in the region, making the Envoy a prime target. As you track Ygwulf to his underground hideout, be prepared for a challenging journey filled with enemies and platforming sections. Stock up on Health Potions and equip your best gear to navigate this dungeon successfully.
Within the dungeon, you may stumble upon documents that shed light on Ygwulf's true intentions and his subsequent remorse. Initially driven by a misguided belief that the Gods demanded the Envoy's death, Ygwulf's perspective shifts as he grapples with his actions. Even without these documents, he will express his regret when you confront him at the quest's climax, showing a willingness to face justice.
What Happens If You Spare Ygwulf or He Turns Himself In?
Opting for Ygwulf to turn himself in to the Inquisitor of the Steel Garrote is the least favorable choice. He would face the merciless wrath of Inquisitor Lödwyn, leading to a painful demise. This option yields fewer rewards compared to sparing him or defeating him in combat. If you choose mercy and spare Ygwulf, he will offer you 625 Copper Skeyt and some Adra as a token of gratitude. While these resources are modest, they can be beneficial. However, sparing him does not alter his ultimate fate, as he will meet his end later in the story.
Why You Should Kill Ygwulf in Avowed
Given that Ygwulf's fate is sealed, choosing to attack him during your confrontation is the most advantageous decision. This choice leads to a boss fight, providing valuable combat experience for future encounters in *Avowed*. Moreover, defeating Ygwulf grants you the best rewards among the options. You can loot his body for currency, Adra, and his unique armor set, Blackwing. Not only does Blackwing look impressive, but it also offers significant stealth advantages, including a +30% Damage boost when attacking from stealth and a 25% Movement Speed increase when crouching, enhancing your ability to evade and surprise enemies.
Does Ygwulf’s Fate Affect the Story in Avowed? SPOILER WARNING
Despite being introduced early in the game, Ygwulf's fate subtly influences *Avowed*'s ending. After the final gameplay section, the game's conclusion, depicted through art and narration, reflects the impact of your choices on Eora's Living Lands. Regardless of your efforts to unify and pacify the region, Ygwulf's death will always occur, fueling the radicalization of the Paradisan Rebellion and ensuring their continued violent opposition to your endeavors post-credits.
