Rebellion Developments, renowned for the Sniper Elite series, ventures into new territory with Atomfall, a first-person survival game set in an alternate 1960s England devastated by nuclear war. The recently released gameplay trailer offers a compelling glimpse into the game's world and mechanics.
Initially revealed at Xbox's Summer Game Fest, Atomfall initially flew under the radar amidst other major announcements. However, its inclusion in the Xbox Game Pass day-one lineup quickly piqued gamer interest. Now, with launch less than three months away (March 27th), a detailed seven-minute gameplay trailer has been released.
The trailer establishes the game's setting: a bleak, post-apocalyptic England reminiscent of titles like Fallout and STALKER. Players will navigate quarantine zones, dilapidated villages, and abandoned research bunkers, scavenging for resources to survive. The threats are diverse, ranging from hostile robots and fanatical cultists to the hazardous environment itself.
Combat will be a blend of melee and ranged encounters. While the trailer showcases a relatively basic arsenal (cricket bat, revolver, shotgun, bolt-action rifle), it emphasizes weapon upgrades and the potential for a wider variety of firearms. Crafting plays a crucial role, allowing players to create healing items and explosive devices such as Molotov cocktails and sticky bombs. A metal detector aids in locating hidden supplies and crafting materials. Skill progression is also highlighted, with unlockable abilities categorized into melee, ranged combat, survival, and conditioning.
Atomfall will launch on March 27th for Xbox, PlayStation, and PC, and will be available on Xbox Game Pass from day one. Rebellion has promised a further in-depth video soon, so stay tuned for more details.
