Bloodborne Remaster Speculation Runs Wild Due to Official Instagram Posts

Bloodborne fans have been clamoring for a remastered version of the FromSoftware title for years, and recent instagram posts have only intensified speculation about such a release.

Hype for a Bloodborne Remaster Fuelled by Instagram Posts

A Cult Classic Begging for a Modern Revival

Bloodborne, a critically acclaimed RPG released in 2015, has long been a fan favorite. Many players have expressed their desire to revisit the gothic city of Yharnam on modern consoles. While no official confirmation has been made, recent posts on FromSoftware and PlayStation Italia’s Instagram page featuring the game have ignited the hype for the game’s return.

On August 24, FromSoftware posted three images with the game’s title and the hashtag "#bloodborne." One image featured Djura, a veteran hunter players will meet in Old Yharnam. The other two images captured the player Hunter exploring the heart of Yharnam and the graveyards of Charnel Lane.

While these posts could merely be a trip down memory lane for FromSoftware, Bloodborne devotees on platforms like Twitter (X) have been dissecting every pixel, searching for clues that might confirm a long-awaited remaster. Many of them feel teased, especially since PlayStation Italia also uploaded a similar post on August 17.

Translated, PlayStation Italia’s post reads: "Swipe to see some of Bloodborne’s most iconic locations! A journey through gothic atmospheres and dark mysteries. Which is your favorite?" Many commenters under the Italian post expressed their longing for a return to Yharnam. Some reminisced with Sony about their favorite locations, while others humorously stated that the most iconic Bloodborne location would be on PC or modern consoles.

Almost a Decade Later, the Hunt for Bloodborne on Modern Consoles Continue

Bloodborne Remaster Speculation Runs Wild Due to Official Instagram Posts

Released in 2015 exclusively for the PS4, Bloodborne has amassed a loyal following, especially since it has been praised by many and cited to be among the greatest video games ever made. Despite this, however, the game has yet to receive a sequel or even a remaster.

Fans point to the 2020 remake of Demon’s Souls, originally released in 2009, as a precedent for a Bloodborne revival. However, their excitement is tempered by concerns about the potential wait. Given that Demon’s Souls took over a decade to receive a remake, fans fear that Bloodborne may face a similar fate. With the game nearing its tenth anniversary, the anticipation for a remastered version has only intensified.

In an interview with Eurogamer in February of this year, Bloodborne director Hidetaka Miyazaki added fuel to the fire. While stopping short of confirming anything concrete, Miyazaki conceded the potential benefits of remastering the game on modern hardware.

"I think having new hardware is definitely a part of what gives these remakes value," Miyazaki said. "However, I wouldn’t say that’s the be all and end all. I think purely from a user perspective, modern hardware also allows more players to appreciate all the games. And so, it ends up being a simple reason, but as a fellow player, I think that accessibility is important."

While Miyazaki’s comments offer a glimmer of hope, it’s important to remember that the ultimate decision lies not with FromSoftware. Unlike Elden Ring, whose publishing rights are entirely owned by FromSoftware, Bloodborne remains firmly in Sony’s grasp.

"Unfortunately, and I’ve said this in other interviews, it’s not in my place to talk about Bloodborne specifically," Miyazaki said in a similar interview with IGN. "We simply don’t own the IP at FromSoftware. For me personally, it was a great project, and I have a lot of great memories for that game, but we’re not at liberty to speak to it."

Bloodborne’s dedicated fanbase has long yearned for a remake. Despite its critical reception and strong sales, Sony has yet to expand its reach beyond the PlayStation 4. Only time will tell if speculations of Bloodborne’s remaster solidify into reality.
