Choosing Your Path in Citizen Sleeper 2: A Class Guide
Citizen Sleeper 2 kicks off with a crucial decision: selecting your character's class – Operator, Machinist, or Extractor. This guide breaks down each class, helping you choose the best fit for your playstyle and roleplaying preferences.
Operator

The Operator begins with a bonus in Interface, foundational levels in Intuit and Engage, and no Engineer skills. Endure is not a viable skill path. Their unique ability lets them trade Stress for a re-roll of their lowest die.
While powerful later on, the Operator can feel a bit challenging early in the game. The Interface skill is valuable, but the re-roll ability isn't a guaranteed win. Roleplaying-wise, the Operator offers versatility, allowing for diverse character interpretations.
Machinist

The Machinist starts with a bonus in Engineer, base levels in Interface and Intuit, and lacks Endure. Engage is also unavailable for skill upgrades. Their ability involves spending Stress to add +2 to their lowest die, offset by losing 2 Stress on a successful outcome. This ability becomes increasingly beneficial as the game progresses.
The Machinist was a personal favorite during my playthrough. The ability to mitigate Stress is invaluable, and the starting skills address common skill check deficiencies. This class suits players drawn to the game's technical and mechanical aspects.
Extractor

The Extractor begins with a bonus in Endure, base levels in Engineer and Engage, and no Interface. Intuit is not upgradeable. Their ability allows them to spend Stress to add +2 to their crew's lowest die, an upgradeable benefit throughout the game.
The Extractor's ability shines in managing contract risks. The starting Endure bonus is helpful given the game's frequent Endure checks. However, the lack of Intuit and the potential for crew skill overlap should be considered. This class is ideal for players who prefer a more physically robust and crew-focused approach.
This guide provides a comprehensive overview to aid your class selection in Citizen Sleeper 2. Choose wisely!
