Big Bad Wolf, the studio renowned for critically acclaimed games such as Vampire: The Masquerade – Swansong and The Council, has officially unveiled their latest project: Cthulhu: The Cosmic Abyss. The announcement was accompanied by a visually stunning CGI trailer that introduces players to Noah, the central character navigating the blurred lines between reality and madness. Viewers are also introduced to the submerged city of R'lyeh and the legendary Great Old One, Cthulhu.
Set in the year 2053, the narrative kicks off when deep-sea corporate operations awaken an ancient cosmic entity. Players assume the role of Noah, an agent for Interpol’s secretive Occult Affairs division, assigned to investigate the inexplicable disappearance of miners in the Pacific Ocean. Alongside an AI companion named Key, players will delve into the mysteries of R’lyeh, solve complex puzzles, and battle the creeping madness induced by Cthulhu's influence.
Leveraging Unreal Engine 5, the game delivers surreal, mind-bending environments that encapsulate the eerie ambiance of H.P. Lovecraft's universe. The trailer, already released, provides a glimpse into what promises to be a gripping and suspenseful experience. Cthulhu: The Cosmic Abyss is scheduled for release in 2026 on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
In other updates from Big Bad Wolf, the studio also shared gameplay clips of The Sinking City 2, another title inspired by the literary works of H.P. Lovecraft.
