Dynasty Warriors 10 Was Canceled

Dynasty Warriors: Origins Rises from the Ashes of a Canceled Predecessor

The upcoming Dynasty Warriors: Origins, slated for release on January 17, 2025, boasts a unique genesis. Omega Force, the development studio, initially embarked on creating a tenth mainline installment in the Dynasty Warriors franchise. However, technological advancements spurred a pivotal decision: the cancellation of Dynasty Warriors 10 to pave the way for a more ambitious and modern title.

This strategic shift leveraged the capabilities of current-generation consoles like the PlayStation 5. Witnessing the potential of these advanced systems, the developers opted for a revised approach, incorporating the best aspects of previous Dynasty Warriors games while simultaneously integrating elements from the scrapped project.

According to producer Tomohiko Sho, the decision to cancel Dynasty Warriors 10 stemmed from the realization of what was achievable with modern hardware. This led to a more strategic and refined gameplay experience in Origins.

Producer Masamichi Oba further elaborated, revealing that the canceled Dynasty Warriors 10 would have resembled Dynasty Warriors 7 (2011) in its stage-clearing structure. Despite the difficult decision to abandon this project, Oba confirmed that several key features were salvaged and integrated into Origins. These include the free-roaming map, a feature he had envisioned for the canceled title, and a more immersive narrative exploring the intricacies of the Three Kingdoms era.

Dynasty Warriors: Origins, therefore, represents a culmination of years of development, incorporating lessons learned and innovative features born from both its predecessor and the technological leap forward. The game retains the series' hallmark hack-and-slash combat, set against the backdrop of the Three Kingdoms Era, but with enhanced strategic depth and a more expansive world to explore. Early access players have already experienced the fast-paced action, and the full release promises a captivating journey for all fans.
