Described as a detective drama reminiscent of "True Detective" and "Slow Horses," "Lanterns" will follow Jordan and Stewart as they investigate a murder that spirals into a far-reaching conspiracy. The series is officially part of James Gunn's revamped DC Universe, alongside projects like "Creature Commando" and the upcoming films "Superman" and "Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow."
Developed by Damon Lindelof (known for "Lost"), alongside Chris Mundy and Tom King, "Lanterns" promises a darker, grittier take on the Green Lantern mythos. Gunn himself describes the series as "very grounded, very believable, very real," a departure from traditional Green Lantern portrayals.
Chandler, renowned for his role in "Friday Night Lights," will portray an older Hal Jordan, while Aaron Pierre ("Rebel Ridge") takes on the role of John Stewart. The series is aiming for a 2026 premiere, coinciding with the release of the "Supergirl" movie.
