After experiencing the network test for Elden Ring: Nightreign, Lies of P Director Choi Ji-Won felt invigorated and is now more receptive to fresh ideas for future projects. During the 2025 Game Developers Conference (GDC), Choi shared insights with Eurogamer about the evolution of the Souls genre. His admiration for FromSoftware's work is evident in the creation of Lies of P.

Choi commented on Elden Ring: Nightreign, stating, "I've tried [Nightreign] and it was very refreshing and new. So that obviously gave me the impression that they're good developers, they always push their boundaries, their imagination and vision, and it shows. In turn, that for some reason motivated me to deliver the Overture experience as good as it could be."

This experience has broadened his perspective, leading him to consider multiplayer elements in future endeavors. Choi affirmed, "In terms of our future endeavours, we are definitely open to any sort of consideration in the future."

Despite his appreciation for FromSoftware games, Choi emphasized that his inspirations are not limited to a single title. In an interview with Games Radar+ at the 2025 GDC, he explained, "I'm a fan of many, many types of games, and that variety of different experiences and inspirations that I pick up with many different games I love, I sort of mold it into my own Lies of P experience. In the end, it's a combination of diverse inspirations that I get from many games that I love, and then I'm trying to transform that into a Lies of P experience that I'm developing for the fans of Lies of P now."

Overture Takes 15-20 Hours for Experienced Players

Choi disclosed that the Overture DLC is expected to take experienced players approximately 15-20 hours to complete, packed with numerous bosses and content that the developers originally intended for the game's launch. He elaborated, "Overture is not a complete separate piece from the base game, and there's a lot of interconnectivity between the two, so developing the expansion was almost like an effort to complete the Lies of P experience, and that was challenging."

Set as a prequel, Overture takes players back to Krat during its last haunting days, following a legendary Stalker. It incorporates new ideas, player feedback, and concepts that couldn't be included in the initial release due to production constraints. Choi likened this expansion to a Director’s Cut, describing it as the final chapter of the game.

He remarked, "When we released the base game, we had to prioritize, as we mentioned, to do the best quality, so we couldn't deliver everything at once because we wanted to make sure what we can deliver has the best quality." Choi highlighted the supportive community feedback following the base game's release, which motivated the team to include everything they envisioned in the expansion.

Overture is Not Connected to the Final Cutscene of the Base Game

In an interview with IGN at the 2025 Game Developers Conference, Choi clarified that the Overture DLC does not connect to the final cutscene of the base game. Without spoiling the ending, the conclusion of the base game provided a glimpse into potential future directions for the Lies of P universe.

Choi had previously announced in a November 2023 Director’s Letter video that a sequel to Lies of P is in the works, hinting that the final cutscene might relate to it. However, details about Lies of P 2 remain scarce.

He assured fans, "What I can certainly tell you is when we share such news or media and assets with you, you'll know for sure that we are ready to present it to you. And that follows very our strict focus on quality [amid] all the pressure that we talked about in the past. So that is the one promise that I can share with you, that when we actually share those contents with you and the news, we will be ready to share that with you."

Choi encouraged players to revisit the base game, suggesting it contains numerous hints about the content of the Overture DLC. He also mentioned being intrigued by fan theories online, noting that some were remarkably accurate.

Lies of P: Overture is slated for release in Summer 2025, though a specific date has not yet been announced. The expansion will be available on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. Stay tuned for more updates on the game by checking out our related articles!
