Star Wars Celebration brought exciting new details about the upcoming *The Mandalorian and Grogu*-themed update coming to *Millennium Falcon: Smuggler's Run*, set to arrive on May 22, 2026. This immersive update will run parallel to the release of the highly anticipated *The Mandalorian & Grogu* film, offering a fresh storyline that, while separate from the movie’s plot, still features Din Djarin and Grogu in thrilling new ways.
One of the most notable additions is the expanded role for Engineers in this experience. For the first time, they’ll be directly responsible for caring for Grogu during parts of the mission. As guests embark on their adventure aboard the Falcon, there will be moments where Mando must temporarily leave the ship, leaving Grogu under the watchful eye of the Engineer. According to Walt Disney Imagineering’s Asa Kalama, this opens up fun interactions between the crew and Grogu—especially when he starts poking around the control panel.
"Throughout the mission, we're going to be giving the engineers the opportunity to actually get to communicate with Grogu," Kalama shared. "So, we think it's going to be a ton of fun. There may be times when Mando has to deboard the Razor Crest and Grogu, left to his own devices, might get a little happy on the control panel. So, we love the idea of there being these fun little vignettes and moments where you're sort of on the comm with Grogu."
Choose-Your-Own-Adventure Storyline Expands the Experience
The update introduces a dynamic, choose-your-own-adventure-style narrative that builds upon the existing structure of *Smuggler's Run*. The story kicks off when Hondo Ohnaka catches wind of a shady deal on Tatooine between ex-Imperial officers and pirates. Guests will team up with Mando and Grogu to track them down and claim a bounty in a high-stakes, galaxy-spanning chase.
As part of the interactive storytelling, players will face pivotal decisions that shape the journey. As Kalama explained, there will be a key moment in the mission where players are pressed for time and must quickly decide which bounty to pursue. That choice determines the destinations visited throughout the galaxy, adding replayability and variety to each ride experience.
New Destinations and Expanded Universe Exploration
While the original ride already lets guests visit planets like Tatooine, Bespin, and Endor, this update adds Coruscant into the mix—offering a broader view of the Star Wars universe. Each planet brings unique environments and encounters, further immersing riders in the world of *The Mandalorian* and beyond.
