Monster Hunter Wilds has stormed onto the scene with a staggering number of players, despite encountering some turbulence at launch. With over 1 million concurrent players on Steam, this game has shattered records previously set by its predecessors, Monster Hunter World and Monster Hunter Rise. Yet, it's not all smooth sailing; the game has received mixed reviews on Steam, with 57% of its 54,669 reviews being positive, largely due to performance issues on PC.
Monster Hunter Wilds Received Mixed Reviews on Steam

Despite the mixed reviews, Monster Hunter (MH) Wilds has achieved an all-time peak of 1,384,608 concurrent players, according to SteamDB. This figure dwarfs the peak player counts of MH World (334,684) and MH Rise (231,360). The negative feedback primarily focuses on the game's poor optimization for PC, leading to performance hiccups that have frustrated some players.
Capcom Responds To PC Performance Issues
In response to the negative reviews highlighting poor PC performance, Capcom has taken action. Monster Hunter’s official support account, Monster Hunter Status, issued a statement on Twitter (X) on February 28, 2025, aiming to address and resolve these issues. They directed players to the MH Wilds support website, which offers a range of solutions, from updating video/graphics drivers and Windows to performing a clean installation of the video driver set.
Capcom further advised players to visit the Official Monster Hunter Wilds Troubleshooting & Issue Reporting Thread on the Steam community page for more detailed steps to resolve ongoing issues.
Game-breaking Bug Blocking Story Progress
A significant game-breaking bug has emerged, preventing story progression in Main Mission: Chapter 5-2 A World Turned Upside Down. An essential NPC fails to appear, halting players' progress. Monster Hunter Status acknowledged this on Twitter (X) on March 2, 2025, and confirmed they are actively working on a fix.
Additional issues have been reported with the "Grill a Meal" and "Ingredient Center" features not unlocking despite meeting the required criteria, as well as problems accessing the Smithy. Capcom has responded swiftly, deploying hotfixes and updates across various platforms to address these concerns.
Character Editing Locked Behind Microtransactions

In MH Wilds, players must engage in microtransactions to alter their characters’ appearances and those of their Palicos. The game offers a Monster Hunter Wilds - Character Edit Voucher Three-Voucher Pack for $6.00, allowing three edits to a character. A separate pack for Palicos is also available, and a $10 voucher enables three edits for both the character and Palico. While basic changes like hair, eyebrow color, facial color, makeup, and clothing can be made freely, more extensive modifications require these vouchers.
Capcom has, however, offered a single free voucher for character edits. It's worth noting that these microtransactions were not part of the game's testing phase but were announced beforehand by Capcom.
