Efficiently Acquiring Machine Arms in NieR: Automata
NieR: Automata presents players with a considerable list of crafting materials needed for weapon and pod upgrades. While many become readily available later, acquiring them early significantly boosts character strength. Machine Arms, a particularly rare material, pose a challenge early on. This guide outlines effective strategies for obtaining them.
Farming Machine Arms: Early Game Strategies
Machine Arms have a chance to drop from defeated small machines, with drop rates increasing alongside enemy level. Early in the game, this makes them scarce. To increase your yield, focus on quickly eliminating large numbers of machines.
Post-Chapter 4, after your first encounter with Adam, a pit continuously spawns enemies, including numerous small machines. Access this location via fast travel to the Desert: Housing Complex access point and proceed deeper into the ruins. The constant respawning, while offering low drop rates due to enemy level, makes this the most efficient early-game farming location. This method is also beneficial for acquiring Titanium Alloy.
Using a Drop Rate Plug-In Chip can marginally improve your chances.
Acquiring Machine Arms: Late Game Strategies (Spoilers)
Warning: The following section contains spoilers for the final playthrough of NieR: Automata.
During the final playthrough, while playing as A2, you can choose to erase Pascal's memories after the village robots are destroyed. This action transforms Pascal into a merchant, accessible until the game's end. He sells various machine parts, including Machine Arms. Pascal's inventory includes:
- Machine Heads - 15,000 G
- Machine Arm - 1,125 G
- Machine Leg - 1,125 G
- Machine Torso - 1,125 G
- Machine Head - 1,125 G
- Children's Cores - 30,000 G
This provides a reliable late-game source for Machine Arms, eliminating the need for extensive farming.
