A former employee of the studio disclosed on LinkedIn that the development of a new game, which had been ongoing for several years, was abruptly halted this week. No specific reasons were provided for the sudden stop in production.
Last year, gaming journalist Jeff Grubb reported that the project was not a mainline entry in the Titanfall series, explicitly stating it was not Titanfall 3. To bring this vision to life, Respawn Entertainment assembled an "experimental team" specifically tasked with the project, drawing in experts known for their prowess in developing multiplayer shooters.
This isn't the first time Respawn has had to pull the plug on a project. Just last year, they canceled an arcade shooter known internally as Titanfall Legends.
The Titanfall series, known for its thrilling mix of action and mech piloting, allows players to engage in combat either as agile pilots or as formidable Titans. Since its debut in 2014, the franchise has captured the hearts of gamers worldwide with its innovative gameplay that melds parkour with intense team-based battles.
Currently, Respawn's focus has shifted to other ventures, including the highly anticipated third installment of the Star Wars Jedi series and a new strategy game set in the Star Wars universe, developed in partnership with Bit Reactor.
