Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2's Patch 4.0 nerfs are being rolled back after player backlash. A hotfix, 4.1, is scheduled for October 24th, reversing the controversial changes.
Developer Saber Interactive responded to intense negative feedback, including review bombing on Steam, by announcing a complete about-face. The "most pressing" balance adjustments introduced in Patch 4.0 will be undone. The initial changes, intended to increase difficulty by boosting enemy spawns, inadvertently made lower difficulties too challenging.
Game director Dmitriy Grigorenko stated that the decision to revert the nerfs is a direct response to player concerns. Furthermore, to prevent future issues, Saber Interactive plans to launch public test servers sometime in early 2025.
The upcoming Patch 4.1 will significantly reduce Extremis enemy spawn rates on Minimal, Average, and Substantial difficulties, reverting them to pre-Patch 4.0 levels. On Ruthless difficulty, spawn rates will be considerably decreased. Additionally, player armor will receive a 10% boost at Ruthless difficulty, and bot damage against bosses will be increased by 30%.
A substantial buff to Bolt weapons is also included in hotfix 4.1. The developers acknowledged their previous underperformance across all difficulty levels. The specific damage increases are as follows:
- Auto Bolt Rifle: +20%
- Bolt Rifle: +10%
- Heavy Bolt Rifle: +15%
- Stalker Bolt Rifle: +10%
- Marksman Bolt Carbine: +10%
- Instigator Bolt Carbine: +10%
- Bolt Sniper Rifle: +12.5%
- Bolt Carbine: +15%
- Occulus Bolt Carbine: +15%
- Heavy Bolter: +5%
- Heavy Bolter: +5%
Saber Interactive will continue monitoring player feedback after Patch 4.1's release to ensure the Lethal difficulty remains appropriately challenging.
