Ubisoft Quietly Launches New NFT Game: Captain Laserhawk: The G.A.M.E.

Ubisoft's latest venture into the NFT gaming space, Captain Laserhawk: The G.A.M.E., has been discreetly released. This top-down multiplayer arcade shooter, as reported by Eurogamer on December 20th, requires players to purchase an NFT to participate.

Expanding the universe of the Netflix series Captain Laserhawk: A Blood Dragon Remix, the game incorporates elements from popular Ubisoft franchises like Watch Dogs and Assassin's Creed. Limited to 10,000 players, access is granted through the purchase of a Citizen ID Card, a unique NFT that tracks player achievements and evolves based on in-game performance.
This Citizen ID Card, costing $25.63, is acquired through Ubisoft's claim page via a crypto wallet. Players can later choose to relinquish their citizenship and sell their IDs on the secondary market, with potential value increases tied to in-game success. According to Ubisoft's Magic Eden page, a full launch is slated for Q1 2025, with early access for those who secured IDs early.

The game's setting mirrors the Netflix series, a spin-off of Far Cry 3's Blood Dragon DLC. Set in an alternate 1992 where the US is a megacorporation-controlled technocracy called Eden, the story follows Dolph Laserhawk, a supersoldier turned defector. While specific plot details for the game remain undisclosed, player actions, including mission completion and community engagement, will influence the narrative and leaderboard rankings.
