Ubisoft Adds Steam Achievements to 12-Year-Old Splinter Cell

Great news for Splinter Cell enthusiasts: Ubisoft has demonstrated its continued commitment to the franchise by introducing Steam Achievements for 2013's Splinter Cell: Blacklist.

While the most recent substantial update regarding the Splinter Cell Remake dates back to 2022, when IGN interviewed Ubisoft Toronto developers about their creative vision, the studio quietly rolled out achievement updates for the decade-old Blacklist on Steam.

Ubisoft's official statement reads: "Operatives, we're excited to confirm Steam Achievements are now live for Splinter Cell: Blacklist!"

According to Ubisoft, players will receive retroactive credit for previously completed missions, though they'll need to launch the game at least once for synchronization. "After syncing, all unlocked Ubisoft Connect achievements will automatically appear on Steam," the developers clarified.

While implementing these retrospective achievements, the studio deliberately excluded 19 multiplayer-focused console achievements to maintain full completion viability for Steam users.

The legendary stealth series prepares for its comeback with a ground-up remake of the original title, Splinter Cell Remake, rebuilt using the cutting-edge Snowdrop engine — though specific details remain scarce.

"After two decades, we're re-examining narrative elements, character development, and certain outdated aspects while preserving the core experience that defined the original," explained creative director Chris Auty during the 2022 reveal.

This development follows Ubisoft's recent strategic partnership with Tencent, receiving a €1.16 billion investment focused on key franchises like Assassin's Creed, Far Cry, and Rainbow Six.

The achievement update coincides with Assassin's Creed Shadows surpassing 3 million players, marking a potential turnaround for Ubisoft after recent setbacks including commercial failures, workforce reductions, studio shutdowns, and project cancellations that preceded Shadows' launch during a period of financial uncertainty.
