Heroes of the Storm Revives Brawl Mode: A Celebration of Classic Maps and Challenges
Heroes of the Storm is bringing back its beloved Heroes Brawl game mode, rebranded as Brawl Mode. This highly anticipated return introduces a rotating selection of over two dozen discontinued maps, offering unique challenges and gameplay experiences not seen in nearly five years. Currently available on the Public Test Realm (PTR), Brawl Mode is slated for official release within a month.
The original Heroes Brawl, initially launched as Arena Mode in 2016, offered weekly rotating game variations with unique map layouts, objectives, and rule sets. These creative twists, inspired by Hearthstone's Tavern Brawls, ranged from all-Nova sniper duels to action-packed arena versions of existing battlefields and even PvE missions like Escape from Braxis. However, due to the rising popularity of single-lane maps and the maintenance complexities, the mode was eventually replaced by ARAM in 2020.
Brawl Mode's revival marks a significant moment for Heroes of the Storm, offering a bi-weekly rotation of maps (on the 1st and 15th of each month). Players earn a special chest after completing three matches within the active Brawl period. The exact reward structure (single reward per Brawl or weekly rewards) remains to be seen.
The PTR currently features the holiday-themed Snow Brawl. Given the PTR's three-week duration, a February launch for Brawl Mode on the live servers seems likely. This comeback is especially fitting, coinciding with Heroes of the Storm's 10-year anniversary on June 2nd, 2025. Many players view this as a positive sign, potentially foreshadowing a broader revival of the game itself.
