inZOI's innovative karma system can transform bustling cities into eerie ghost towns if too many Zois pass away with negative karma. Delve deeper to understand how inZOI's karma system works and get the scoop on its eagerly awaited early access launch.
inZOI Cities Can Be Overrun By Ghosts
New Zois Cannot Be Born If There Are Too Many Ghosts

inZOI's unique mechanics can turn vibrant cities into desolate ghost towns if the number of ghosts becomes overwhelming, significantly impacting the city's overall state. inZOI Director Hyungjun Kim highlighted the profound influence of the game’s karma system on player experience in the latest issue of PC Gamer Magazine.
Kim explained, "Every action a Zoi takes contributes to their karma accumulation." He further noted, "At the moment of death, a karma evaluation takes place to determine the soul's fate. If the karma score is too low, the Zoi transforms into a ghost, requiring them to redeem their karma points before they can reincarnate."
If the situation is not managed, Zois dying with poor karma can alter the city's dynamics dramatically. Kim added, "An excess of ghosts in the city prevents new Zois from being born and stops families from forming, thrusting the responsibility onto players to maintain the karma balance within the city." This adds another layer of complexity for players, who must carefully manage the karma system to prevent their cities from becoming ghost towns.
Kim also clarified the philosophy behind the system, stating, "This system isn't about enforcing only 'good' actions and restricting 'bad' ones." He elaborated, "Life isn't simply black and white; every life has its own significance and value. Players are encouraged to explore inZOI's karma system to craft a variety of events and narratives, exploring the multifaceted nature of life."
inZOI Director Has Great Respect for the Legacy The Sims Built

inZOI stands as a formidable contender in the life simulation genre, yet inZOI Director Hyungjun Kim does not see it as a direct rival to The Sims. He stated, "We see inZOI not as a competitor to The Sims, but as an additional choice for fans of the genre to enjoy."
Expressing his admiration for The Sims, Kim said, "We deeply respect the legacy that The Sims has built over the years. Achieving such depth in a short time is incredibly challenging, especially in life simulation games that attempt to encapsulate the broad and complex concept of 'life.'"
The goal for inZOI, according to Kim, is to offer a distinct experience by emphasizing its unique features. He explained, "inZOI is crafted to empower players to design the life they envision, utilizing a range of creative tools. With a realistic visual style powered by Unreal Engine 5, extensive customization options, and AI-driven creative tools, we hope players will use these features to bring their imaginations to life, becoming the protagonists in their own stories."
