Will Wright's New AI-Powered Life Sim, Proxi, Unveils More Details

The creator of The Sims, Will Wright, recently shared further insights into his upcoming AI life simulation game, Proxi, during a Twitch livestream with BreakthroughT1D. Initially announced in 2018, Proxi has remained relatively shrouded in mystery until a recent teaser. This livestream offered a more substantial glimpse into the game's mechanics and core concept.
BreakthroughT1D, a leading organization dedicated to Type 1 diabetes research, uses its Twitch channel to collaborate with the gaming community for fundraising. Their "Dev Diaries" series features interviews with game developers, and Will Wright's appearance provided valuable information about Proxi.

At the heart of Proxi is the innovative use of personal memories. Players input their memories as text, and the game transforms them into animated scenes. These scenes are customizable using in-game assets for a more accurate representation. Each added memory ("mem") trains the game's AI, expanding the player's "mind world"—a 3D environment where memories are visualized as interconnected hexagons.
This mind world populates with "Proxies" representing friends and family as more memories are added. Memories are arranged chronologically and linked to Proxies, reflecting the context and individuals involved. Intriguingly, these Proxies can even be exported to other game worlds, such as Minecraft and Roblox.
Wright emphasized the game's focus on creating a deeply personal experience. He highlighted the importance of player-centric design, stating that "no game designer has ever gone wrong by overestimating the narcissism of their players," adding with a laugh, "The more I can make a game about you, the more you'll like it."
Proxi is now featured on Gallium Studio's website, with platform announcements expected soon.
