In an exciting revelation from Gamescom, Mortal Kombat co-founder Ed Boon discussed the distinct approaches to Omni-Man and Homelander in Mortal Kombat 1. Boon emphasized that the development team at NetherRealm Studios is committed to crafting unique combat styles for these two iconic characters, ensuring that players experience distinctly different gameplay with each.
Ed Boon Confirms Homelander and Omni-Man Will Play Differently
During an interview with IGN at Gamescom, Ed Boon addressed the community's concerns about the potential overlap in combat styles between Homelander and Omni-Man. Boon reassured fans that the MK1 developers are taking a creative approach to differentiate the heroes' abilities, making it feel as though players are controlling two entirely different characters.
Boon highlighted the creative freedom they have with these characters, stating, "Obviously, we could do anything with the characters, but I don’t think we’re going to have both Homelander and Omni-Man have heat vision or something like that." This approach aims to avoid the pitfall of both characters having similar Superman-esque abilities, which would diminish the uniqueness of each fighter.
Furthermore, Boon shared insights into how the team has drawn inspiration from the heroes' actions in their respective shows to design their Fatalities. He emphasized, "They’re definitely going to play differently. The main attacks are going to really differentiate them, but we’re definitely aware of the assumption that some people were making on, ‘Oh, they’re just going to be the same characters.'" This commitment to differentiation ensures that players will have a fresh and engaging experience with both Homelander and Omni-Man in Mortal Kombat 1.
