Acquiring certain crafting materials in NieR: Automata proves significantly more challenging than others. While not visually indicated, some resources, like the Pristine Screw, are exceptionally rare.
Although purchasable from Emil, his stock fluctuates, making direct acquisition from machines a potentially faster and cheaper alternative. Below are two farming strategies for obtaining Pristine Screws.
Where To Find Pristine Screws in NieR: Automata
Goliath-Bipeds, the largest non-boss machines, drop screws. Pristine Screws are the rarest type, with drop rates significantly improving at higher enemy levels (making early-game farming impractical).
Several locations reliably spawn Goliath-Bipeds. The pit where Adam is first encountered offers consistent spawns, but these level 30+ machines have a low Pristine Screw drop rate. The advantage is continuous enemy respawning, enabling rapid farming despite the lower odds.
Alternatively, during the third playthrough, fast-traveling to the Forest Castle: Front access point reveals two level 49 Goliath-Bipeds guarding the entrance. Their higher level increases the Pristine Screw drop chance, but they don't respawn. To farm them repeatedly, you must fast travel to a distant location and then return.
Both strategies benefit from using a drop-rate boosting plug-in chip.
Which Farming Method Is More Efficient?
The optimal method depends on two key factors:
- Game and system load times:
- Player patience:
Farming Pristine Screws is inherently time-consuming. The Forest method, while offering a higher drop rate, involves frequent loading screens, minimizing actual gameplay. If load times are acceptable, this is the preferred method. Conversely, the pit method provides continuous gameplay, additional material drops, and XP, ideal for players prioritizing consistent action and diverse resource gathering.
