Elden Ring: Nightreign will remove the in-game messaging feature, a departure from previous FromSoftware titles. Project director Junya Ishizaki explained this decision in a recent interview, citing the game's shorter play sessions. Nightreign's approximately forty-minute gameplay sessions leave insufficient time for players to leave or read messages.
"Given the roughly forty-minute session length, there's not enough time to send or read messages, so we disabled the feature," Ishizaki stated.
This change is notable, considering the significant role messaging has played in fostering player interaction and enjoyment in past FromSoftware games. However, the development team deemed the feature unsuitable for Nightreign's design.
To preserve the integrity of the original Elden Ring, Nightreign features a separate narrative. It offers a new adventure with unique challenges and encounters, while retaining the atmospheric and intricate world of Elden Ring.
