Split Fiction: More Surprises Unfold
Laser Hell Conquered: A Trip to Sweden Awaits
Split Fiction's successful launch last month continues to yield exciting surprises, most notably the discovery and completion of the incredibly challenging "Laser Hell" secret stage. Two incredibly skilled Chinese streamers, sharkOvO and E1uM4y, recently posted a BiliBili video showcasing their triumph. Unlocking this hidden level requires precise input on the Isolation level's elevator switches. Successfully navigating this sequence transports players to a laser-infested platforming challenge.
Their accomplishment unlocked a congratulatory video message from Hazelight Founder Josef Fares. Fares revealed that even many of his developers struggled to complete the level, highlighting the challenge's difficulty. As a reward, he invited sharkOvO and E1uM4y to visit Hazelight Studios in Sweden. Fares later confirmed this on Twitter (X) on March 19th, stating, "Congrats to "sharkOvO" and "E1uM4y" for finishing the secret challenge "Laser Hell" in #splitficton. VERY impressive! I will keep my promise and invite you both to Sweden for an early look of our next game. We´ll be in touch!"
Hazelight Studios: On to the Next Adventure

In a March 17th interview on The Friends Per Second podcast, Fares discussed Hazelight's strong relationship with publisher EA and revealed that development on their next game is underway. He described Split Fiction's reception as exceptionally positive, exceeding even his expectations. While thrilled with the game's success, he confirmed his focus has shifted to their next project, which is already in development.
While eager to share his excitement, Fares remained tight-lipped about specifics, citing the early stage of development. He mentioned that Hazelight typically dedicates three to four years to a game, hinting at a future reveal in the coming years. "There is a reason why I can’t talk about the next game; it’s because it’s quite early," he stated. "Just know this: we are very, very, very, very excited here. Very excited, and we started working on this a month ago-ish."
He further clarified Hazelight's unique relationship with EA, emphasizing their collaborative approach: "EA is a supporter. We don’t pitch games to them. We say, ‘We’re going to do this.’ That’s it. They have zero… thing to say about what we’re doing next." Fares highlighted EA's respectful approach to Hazelight, contrasting it with experiences reported by other developers. He credits this respect as a contributing factor to Hazelight's success.
First Update and a Milestone Achieved

On March 17th, Split Fiction received its first update, addressing community-reported issues such as glitches, localization problems, and other minor bugs. The game also recently surpassed a significant milestone, selling over 2 million copies within its first week of release. This impressive figure dwarfs the initial sales of Hazelight's previous hit, It Takes Two, which sold 1 million copies several weeks after launch.
Split Fiction is currently available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. For the latest news and updates, check out [our article below]!
