Developer Announces Major Tweaks to REPO's Overcharge and Difficulty Scaling

May 22,2025 Author: Audrey

REPO, the thrilling new game from developer Semiwork, is gearing up for some exciting changes. The team has been hard at work analyzing feedback from their recent open beta to refine the game's mechanics, particularly focusing on the Overcharge feature and difficulty scaling. Let's dive into what these updates entail and what players can expect moving forward.

REPO Development Updates

Overcharge Overhaul

During the open beta, the Overcharge mechanic caught the attention of both players and developers. This feature lets players pick up enemies and throw them onto hard surfaces or away from their team, a tactical move that requires strategic timing. The key to this mechanic is the overcharge meter; if filled, the player will explode, adding a thrilling risk-reward element to gameplay.

Initially available from the start, Overcharge is now set to unlock at level 10. This adjustment is part of a broader plan to introduce new difficulty-increasing mechanics every 10 levels, starting at level 20 and continuing beyond. These mechanics won't just be about ramping up the challenge; they'll also be deeply integrated into REPO's lore. As Semiwork's developers stated, "So this system will be also tied to lore. It won’t be just a gimmick for no reason. There will be something attached to this and we will share more details in the future."

Developers Joined Open Beta Matchmaking

REPO's Overcharge and Difficulty Scaling are Getting Major Tweaks, Says Developer

In a unique move, Semiwork's developers, including Pontus Sundstrom, went incognito and joined random matches during the open beta. This hands-on approach allowed them to directly engage with the community, gather real-time feedback, and understand what aspects of the game players found enjoyable.

Sundstrom shared his experience, saying, "And I've also actually played with a lot of you guys - incognito, in secret, through the random matchmaking in the servers." He further explained, "And I've been asking some questions and finding out what you guys find fun, stuff like that."

With the invaluable feedback collected, Semiwork is committed to enhancing REPO. Players can anticipate more updates and improvements as the developers continue to refine the game.
