Halo Studios Charts a New Course for Future Halo Games

Microsoft-owned Halo Studios (formerly 343 Industries) has announced the development of several new Halo titles. This announcement also marks a significant rebranding, signaling a fresh start for the franchise.

Studio Head Pierre Hintze stated, "Halo's history comprises two distinct chapters: Bungie and 343 Industries. Now, we aim to deliver what fans crave." He emphasized a shift in development strategy, not just for efficiency, but for a fundamental change in how Halo games are created.

The studio will leverage Epic Games' Unreal Engine 5 (UE5) for future Halo installments. UE5's reputation for high-quality graphics and realistic physics aligns perfectly with Halo Studios' ambitions. Epic CEO Tim Sweeney tweeted, "Epic is honored that Halo Studios has chosen our tools for their future endeavors!"

Halo's leadership team outlined the franchise's new direction. Hintze acknowledged a previous overemphasis on supporting Halo Infinite, explaining that the transition to UE5 allows for higher-quality games. The overarching goal, he stressed, is to create "the best possible Halo games."

This new structure empowers the game developers to make key decisions." She highlighted the importance of increased player feedback in shaping the franchise's future.

Studio Art Director Chris Matthew explained the technical advantages of UE5. He noted that elements of the previous engine, Slipspace, are nearly 25 years old, and that UE5 offers capabilities unavailable in Slipspace, capabilities that would have taken significant time and resources to replicate.
