Capcom is optimizing Monster Hunter Wilds for improved performance and reduced GPU requirements before launch. This follows feedback from the initial open beta test, which revealed performance issues on PC.
Lowering the GPU Barrier
Capcom's German Twitter (X) account announced performance improvements, particularly focusing on lowering the GPU requirements for the PC version. A video showcasing smoother gameplay on PS5's updated Prioritize Framerate mode (prioritizing frame rate over graphics) hints at similar optimizations for PC. The current minimum GPU requirements are NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1660 Super and AMD Radeon RX 5600 XT. Success in lowering these requirements would broaden the game's accessibility.
A free benchmarking tool is also planned to help players assess their PC's capabilities.
Addressing Beta Concerns
The initial open beta test (October/November 2024) revealed significant performance issues, including low-polygon character models and frame rate drops, even on high-end PCs. Capcom acknowledged these problems, stating that improvements were underway and that an issue with afterimage noise would be fixed.
A second open beta test (February 7-10 and 14-17, 2025) for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and Steam is scheduled, featuring new monsters (Gypceros and an unnamed creature). Whether these performance improvements will be included in the second beta remains to be seen.
The ongoing optimizations suggest that Monster Hunter Wilds' launch will be significantly improved over the initial beta experience.
