inZOI, the latest life simulation game from South Korean powerhouse Krafton, has taken the gaming world by storm, selling an astonishing 1 million copies in just one week. This marks the fastest sales milestone ever achieved by a game published by Krafton, highlighting the immense popularity and appeal of inZOI.
Launched on PC via Steam in Early Access on March 28, inZOI quickly made headlines, albeit for an unexpected reason: players discovered they could run over and kill children in the game. Krafton swiftly addressed this issue, labeling it as an "unintended bug" and releasing a patch to rectify the situation.
Despite this early hiccup, inZOI has garnered a 'very positive' user review rating on Steam. The game also achieved a peak of 175,000 concurrent viewers on Twitch, securing the third spot in the Games category. Moreover, inZOI soared to the top of Steam’s Global Top Sellers List (by sales revenue) a mere 40 minutes after its release, demonstrating its instant appeal to gamers worldwide.
The in-game user-generated content (UGC) sharing platform, Canvas, further underscores inZOI's success. On launch day alone, Canvas saw over 1.2 million participants and more than 470,000 pieces of content uploaded, showcasing the vibrant and creative community surrounding the game.
IGN's Early Access review of inZOI awarded it a 6/10, noting, "inZOI is a visually striking life simulator with plenty of ambition, but not enough depth as of its Early Access launch." Despite this critique, the game's overall reception remains overwhelmingly positive.
Krafton attributes inZOI's success to its proactive approach in promoting the game before launch and its effective communication with the community, which helped build trust and momentum. The inZOI global showcase and demo build were particularly instrumental in generating high interest, according to Krafton.
CEO CH Kim expressed gratitude and excitement about presenting inZOI to players worldwide through Early Access, emphasizing Krafton's commitment to ongoing communication and fostering inZOI as a long-term franchise IP.
Looking ahead, Krafton plans to introduce new content through future updates, including mod support and new cities. All updates and DLC will be provided for free until the game's full release. In response to player feedback, Krafton has promised to quickly apply fixes for reported issues through hotfixes during April. The company acknowledges the scale of inZOI’s global community as a "next-level experience" and admits to undergoing some trial and error in finding the optimal means of communication.
