It's available day one with Xbox Game Pass!

Note: The Steam discount ends May 2nd, 2025, while the PlayStation discount (available until release at 3:00 PM local time) requires a PlayStation Plus subscription. Epic Games Store users can wishlist the game.
Beyond the release date, Sandfall Interactive delved into the game's new characters and refined combat system.
Expedition 33's New Recruits: Monoco and Esquie

Expanding the roster to seven playable characters plus a dedicated exploration companion, the team welcomes Monoco and Esquie. Monoco, a "friendly and bloodthirsty Gestral," possesses the unique ability to transform into defeated enemies, leveraging their powers in combat. Intrigued by the challenges ahead, and immune to the Paintress's influence, Monoco joins the fight.

Esquie, a living legend and arguably the world's strongest being, takes a supporting role, granting access to various locations across the open-world map. His special stones unlock new abilities and previously inaccessible areas. Remember the previously revealed characters, Gustave, Lune, Maelle, Sciel, Renoir, and Verso, introduced on October 16th, 2024? They all unite to break the cycle of death.
Reimagined Turn-Based Combat and Deep Character Customization

Sandfall Interactive isn't just creating a visually stunning game; they're reinventing turn-based combat. As highlighted in an Xbox Wire article (January 23rd, 2025), CEO and Creative Director Guillaume Broche emphasizes a focus on deep, varied gameplay: "We wanted it to be like a game that feels like a real game. So every character has their own playstyle...and they all have their unique mechanics and their unique skill tree."
This is achieved through a reactive turn-based system, introducing real-time elements like dodging and parrying for increased damage. Difficulty settings adjust the timing windows for these actions, ensuring accessibility for all players.

Deep character customization is key. Unique mechanics and skill trees, such as Lune's "Stain" resource, combine with Luminas (passive effects gained by evolving "Pictos" after four battles) to create hundreds of build possibilities. This blend of strategic depth and reactive combat promises a truly engaging experience.
