Payday 3's highly anticipated offline mode arrives later this month, but with a surprising caveat: an internet connection is still required. This addition follows considerable player backlash over the game's initial lack of offline functionality.
Since its debut in 2011 with Payday: The Heist, the Payday franchise has redefined the FPS genre, emphasizing cooperative gameplay and elaborate heists in high-stakes locations. The series is renowned for its sophisticated stealth mechanics and diverse weaponry, offering players strategic freedom in mission execution. Payday 3 enhanced stealth capabilities further, providing even more options for completing objectives. The upcoming "Boys in Blue" update, scheduled for June 27th, introduces a new heist and addresses long-standing player requests.
The new offline mode, launching in beta, aims to improve the solo experience. However, initial access necessitates an online connection. While future updates will enable full offline play, this beta removes the need for matchmaking queues—a significant point of contention for solo players. The absence of dedicated offline solo play, alongside other missing features like The Safehouse, fueled much of the initial negative reaction to Payday 3.
Payday 3's Offline Mode Beta
Starbreeze Entertainment confirms ongoing development of the solo mode, aiming for a satisfying solo player experience. Almir Listo, Head of Community and Global Brand Director at Starbreeze, stated that the solo mode will be refined post-beta launch. The June 27th update also includes a new heist, free items, and various improvements, including a new LMG, three masks, and the ability to name custom loadouts.
Payday 3's launch was marred by server issues and limited content (only eight heists at release). Starbreeze CEO Tobias Sjögren apologized for the game's initial state, and subsequent updates have addressed some problems. However, future content expansions, such as the "Syntax Error" heist, will be paid DLC.
