Game Designer Wojciech Piejko emphasized their desire to move beyond the Silent Hill 2 experience, stating in a Gamespot interview that Cronos represents a distinct departure. Development on Cronos began in 2021, even before the release of The Medium, highlighting their proactive approach to future projects.

Director Jacek Zieba framed Cronos: The New Dawn as the "second punch" in a one-two combo, with the Silent Hill 2 remake serving as the first. The team views the Silent Hill 2 remake as a pivotal moment, marking their transformation into "Bloober Team 3.0," and are encouraged by the positive response to the Cronos reveal trailer. Their focus remains firmly on the horror genre, capitalizing on a discovered niche and aiming for organic evolution within it.
